23 hectares on the Left Bank. The famous green metal chairs — free, movable, claimed each morning by Parisians dragging them to preferred spots with territorial precision. Geometric flower beds, clipped hedges, the Medici Fountain at the east end. Children sailing wooden boats in the basin, old men playing chess near the tennis courts, joggers looping the perimeter.

Early October for chestnuts turning gold and slanting light making the gravel glow. Dawn to dusk. The hour before closing — guards blowing whistles, chairs emptying — is the most Parisian moment the city offers.
