Paris's Pigalle: Cabaret Tradition, Limited Strip Clubs
Pigalle at the foot of Montmartre is the historic adult-entertainment district — the original red-light district that gave the world the cancan and the Moulin Rouge. The cabaret tradition is the area's living legacy: Crazy Horse, Lido de Paris, Moulin Rouge are legitimate theatrical cabaret shows (artful nudity, not strip-club format).
Traditional strip clubs are a smaller piece of the Paris scene. French law regulates adult-entertainment venues and the licensed strip clubs in and around Pigalle operate under stricter rules than the cabaret halls. New Orleans and a few other rooms are the surviving examples.
The Pigalle of 2026 is much more bar-and-nightlife than red-light. Walk it by day first if you want to see the territory.
